Spotlight on Barnhill Contracting: Legacy and Innovation in NC Construction
Your essential guide to dominating the construction bidding and building world with the latest tech, market trends, and wisdom.
This week, we're proud to shine a spotlight on Barnhill Contracting Company, a company that has earned its place as a leader in the construction industry for over 75 years.
Headquartered in Rocky Mount, NC, Barnhill’s operations span from Raleigh to the coast, making them a driving force behind some of the most critical infrastructure projects across North Carolina. Founded in 1949, Barnhill has built its legacy on trust, innovation, and lasting partnerships, and today, their 1,000+ employees and 22 asphalt plants make them one of the largest asphalt suppliers in the state. Whether it's paving highways, delivering complex site development projects, or constructing commercial landmarks, Barnhill continues to push boundaries, safely delivering top-notch projects with advanced technology and improving the communities where they live and work.

When we were chasing our first design build job at Barriere, we needed advice from an expert who had been through it all. Wonder who we called? You guessed it: Barnhill. They’ve always been pioneers in alternative delivery methods and were gracious in sharing their experience with us. From the start of Edgevanta, they’ve been an invaluable partner, and their continued support means the world to us.
Led by Rob Barnhill (“B3”), what makes Barnhill stand out is their ability to balance their heritage with a forward-thinking mindset. It is a privilege visiting their teams across the state from Raleigh → Rocky Mount → Elizabeth City → Wilmington → Fayetteville and back. What I admire most are the people: humble, honest, sharp, and relentless in their pursuit of improvement.
We’re honored to partner with Barnhill, a company that not only shares our commitment to excellence but also exemplifies strong leadership and a values-driven approach. Check out their partnership video below 👇, which highlights the collaborative spirit between our teams and showcases the incredible work they continue to deliver for North Carolina's infrastructure.
